PROJECT 01: BROOME STREET LOFT
LOCATION: SOHO, NEW YORK CITY
PHOTOGRAPHY: NAHO KUBOTA
PROJECT 01 A study in minimalism, restraint, and the intersection of design classics with Japanese aesthetics.
This two-bedroom loft occupies the entire third floor of a historic cast iron building in SoHo. Tasked with providing interior design and art advisory services for the owner, we created a functional yet minimal space defined by calmness and clarity in its design.
Influenced by our experience living in Asia and multiple trips to Japan with our client, the Broome Street Loft quietly pairs furniture, art, and objects from skilled artisan makers with timeless design classics. Japanese aesthetics invite contemplation and explain the considerable use of oak, diffused lighting, sliding doors throughout, and the active use of negative space to exhibit the client’s collection of contemporary art and ceramics. Only in certain controlled instances would we offer stark contrast to this motif via the furniture and lighting selections. The result is a peaceful new space in the heart of SoHo that is as much story as project.
Press/Portfolio Inquiries: To maintain the project’s narrative exclusivity, we invite qualified press inquiries for the full portfolio and material study.
